Jordin Sparks in Detroit for “Sparkle” Premiere!
Jordin Sparks won the world over when she was crowned our American Idol champ in 2007. I love this girl! Her smile, her big voice, and talent is undeniable. It’s time for this young talent to grow into a movie star, just like her co-star Whiteny Houston did early in her career. Sparkle is the film to do that!
Sparkle, the new movie staring the late great Whitney Houston and Sparks was filmed in Detroit! The film follows the story of musical prodigy Sparkle (Sparks), a Detroit native trying to make a name for herself while dealing with struggles at home. Houston plays Sparkle’s single mom, Emma. Jordin Sparks loved the fact that they took the “red carpet” premiere to the Motor City to celebrate it’s opening. In Royal Oak at Emagine Theater, Sparks was joined by more than 300 hundred movie lovers and locals who worked on the film. Some superstar guests walked the red carpet toi, including Aretha Franklin and Martha Reeves.
“Motown has meant so much to me throughout my life, and the people have been so welcoming,” added Sparks. “Detroit is really the spirit and heart of the movie.”
Sparkle was shot for about two months in late 2011 in and around downtown Detroit, the movie’s filming locations included Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, the Masonic Temple, Cliff Bell’s jazz club, a stretch of Woodward Avenue by the Fox Theatre and a private residence in Indian Village. Sparkle was suppose to be Whitney’s big comeback instead it will now be known as her final on-screen performance.
On the night Whitney Houston did, Jordin Sparks was at the Beverly Hilton Hotel getting ready to meet up with Houston. The two were planning on working the room together at Clive Davis’s pre Grammy party. It’s still so sad that we lost Whitney, but this film “Sparkle” let’s the legend shine on…..
Sparkle opens up nationally on Aug. 17.
