So auditions for X-Factor took place this week in Greensboro, NC, and looks like new judge Demi Lovato wasn’t too thrilled with the local talent. Demi, who has been very outspoken about her own personal issues with drugs and alcohol took an issue with a rap group that auditioned, and immediately kicked them off without even judging their performance. No word on the name of the group, but apparently they had a line in their audition that referenced being “high on bath salts”, which Demi immediately took an issue with and reportedly said something along the lines of ‘It’s really irresponsible to be rapping about drugs in front of kids.’ What’s your take on this? I mean I don’t know all of the details, and I don’t know whether groups were instructed to tailor their content to kids, but it seems to me that Demi is out of line here. First of all, I would guess that the lyric probably referenced bath salts in a comedic way, not in a way that actually promoted using such an idiotic product. Second of all, music is art! Artists take their personal experiences and the things that affect them in their daily lives, and make music about them. We’ve all seen the news reports about people on bath salts. It’s not good, but it definitely affects our lives. I feel like hiphop always gets a bad rap just because its hiphop. Would Demi have had the same issue if a country singer sang about abusing alcohol? I just feel like she took an issue with these guys based on her own personal problems she’s dealt with in the past, and that’s not fair to the group. what do you think?
