Forget the “freshman fifteen” weight gain, have you heard of the “work force twenty”? Typically, you would expect to be much healthier after you leave college. Apparently that is not the case. According to a study done by Harris Interactive, any job that causes high levels of stress and lack of movement through out the work day will cause a significant amount of weight gain. Their research shows that 44% of people have gained weight after starting their new job.

9. Marketing/public relations professional
10. Information technology professional
Don’t worry, you’re not completely doomed if your new job or career is listed above. The study also shows that habits like vending machine meals, eating because of stress, regularly getting take-out, and skipping meals also contributes to work related weight gain. There are easy ways to fix this or prevent it from happening! Bring a healthy lunch, along with nutritious snacks so you don’t make visits to the vending machine. Get up and move around, every hour or two take 5-10 minutes to walk around the building to get your blood circulating. Say no to free donuts lingering in the staff kitchen. Drink lots of water, skip the pop. Go for walks on your lunch break and take the stairs when you can!
