I don’t know what it is, but sometimes schools just aren’t thinking straight. A young girl was in her last year of high school, and even though this is her 4th year in high school, she was still 4 credits shy of graduation. Not because she was a bad student, but because she has had cancer since she was 14, and she goes through many intense treatments. Even though she had a good, reason, her high school wasn’t going to let her participate in graduation.
According to KTVB.com, Haylee Winters should be a senior this year at her high school, but because of her gruesome chemo treatments she’s missed so much school she is 4 credits shy of graduating. Originally, the school was going to deny her chance to walk during graduation, but after a ton of complaining, she is now being able to walk!
According to the school, the family was told that there were special steps that could get her to be able to walk for graduation, but the family weren’t able to meet those requirements right away.
“We’ve got 25,000 students in the district, the majority of whom meet the requirements and are able to participate in commencement exercises. She was told early in the year what the steps are that need to be taken,” Hollar said.
