Gearing up for the American Idol finale, Steven Tyler spoke backstage about the show and its contestants and also gave an update on Aerosmith’s new album and upcoming tour.
When asked about the two finalists for this season’s crown, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, who have each seen steady improvement as the season has progressed, Tyler spoke fondly of how “crazy good” both have been.
Tyler said he is proud Phillips overcame his shyness and vulnerability to become a serious contender.
“We’ve watched him really flower,” he said of Phillips’ progression this season. He added that Sanchez has “got a whole lot more pizzazz as well” compared to the beginning of the season.
Tyler also spoke on the current state of Aerosmith’s new album, which he said has 20 songs written. The band is using a variety of producers for the new album, many of who they have worked with before.
Based on his comments, fans of classic Aerosmith tunes should be excited for the new material.
“Let’s just say we got Aerosmith back,” he said.
Expect to hear at least one brand new Aerosmith song when the band performs on tonight’s season finale.
