Drake fans got a special treat last night at his Club Paradise Tour show in Houston.
Before the MC took the stage some friends warmed up the audience including French Montana, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Waka Flocka Flame and J. Cole. And during his set he had a big surprise guest: Rick Ross.
After the show the network caught up with Drake to find out how Ross came to be his surprise guest for the night.
“Ross told me, ‘Yo, I know Houston means a lot so I’m going to be there.’ I told Meek right away, ‘Yo, that’s my dog. Come out during my set and do two songs when the place is full.’”
Meanwhile, Drake expressed the difficulty in having some of his best friends as openers.
“It’s crazy, being friends with a lot of these guys. It’s tough to have them open for you sometimes, the type of guy that I am anyway,” he said. “I always look at all these guys as my equals, my peers. It’s crazy to have them in that slot so tonight was one of those nights I was able to be like, ‘Yo Meek, come out and get this look you deserve.’”
While concertgoers on the remainder of his tour are sure to see some more guest performers, Drake said Houston is his favorite place in the world.
“I always like to do special things for Houston. We always try to give them a memorable moment. But tonight was crazy.”
Houston holds major significance in the hip-hop world. Artists like the Geto Boys, UGK, and DJ Screw and even Drake first found success in the city. UGK moved to the area from Port Arthur, Texas, while 8 Ball & MJG traveled from Memphis, Tennessee, in hopes to further their career.
