Karmin Reveal The Details Behind Nick’s Proposal
Karmin‘s Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan met in college and have been making music together ever since. In an interview with 92.3 NOW/New York the duo shared what it’s really like working together while being in a relationship 24/7 and how Nick proposed.
“It can definitely be a challenge sometimes but overall it’s absolutely amazing,” Nick confessed. “It’s real life.”
The couple met at a party at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While Nick was the self-proclaimed party type Amy said she was a church going girl and that sometimes opposites really do attract.
As for the proposal, Amy explained, “I’m not one for fancy pants stuff. I don’t want someone with an airplane flying over Fenway Park.”
Instead, she wanted it to be personal.
“It felt like a long time coming. We had been together for five years and had talked about it. We had gone ring shopping. Everything was way too expensive, couldn’t afford anything,” Amy said. “This is a time when we were making YouTube videos and eating spaghetti every day.”
Nick called Amy and said he wrote a song for Karmin and wanted to stop by during his lunch break to play it.
“[He] pops his iPod in in the kitchen and it starts playing and I’m like, ‘Hold on, this is Elvis.’ It’s my grandparents song, ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love,’” she explained.
“And I see him turn around and I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ and he starts pulling something out of his pocket. It was like waterworks. Instantly, I knew.”
Busy promoting their debut album Hello, the duo expressed their appreciation to share their day-to-day experiences with each other.
“We go through things that are life changing and we get to do it together,” Amy said.
“Through all this Karmin stuff, this is the biggest accomplishment that we’re still together and we still like each other,” Nick added.
