Kanye West’s “TheraFlu” Rouses PETA: “We Hope He Finds His Heart”
Kanye West has proven to be an equal opportunity offender with his latest song. Last night (April 4) West released “TheraFlu,” on which he confessed his past love for reality star Kim Kardashian, dissed her ex Kris Humphries, and raised the hackles of animal rights organization PETA.
On the new track, West dubs himself “Swag King Cole,” boasts about his high-fashion bona fides, and taunts PETA throughout:
“Can’t a young N*** get money any more/ Tell PETA my mink is dragging on the floor.”
In less than twenty-four hours since the song dropped, PETA released a statement to CBS Local expressing their displeasure.
“What’s draggin’ on the floor is Kanye’s reputation as a man with no empathy for animals or human beings,” said Dan Mathews, PETA’s Senior Vice President in a statement. “He’s a great musician but doesn’t seem to have the fashion sense to design anything more than caveman costumes. We keep hoping that one day he’ll find his heart and join evolved style icons—including Russell Simmons, Pink, and Natalie Portman—who have dropped animal skins.”
Other rappers have jumped on board with PETA’s message. Last month, CBS Local reported that Waka Flocka Flame joined PETA in a campaign to stop dog fighting and animal cruelty. In the behind-the-scenes video from the photo shoot, the high-energy rapper explains why he decided to join the campaign against dog chaining and animal abuse.
“It’s important not to abuse dogs,” Waka said in the clip. “Pick on somebody your own size.” [See video below]
Kanye’s “TheraFlu” originally made news for his revealing lyrics where he admits that he “fell in love” with Kim Kardashian.
“The whole industry wanna f**k your old chick/ The only n***a I got respect for is Wiz/ And I’ll admit I fell in love with Kim/ Right around the same time she fell in love with him/ Well that’s cool, baby girl do your thing/ Lucky I ain’t have Jay drop him from the team/ La Familia, Roc Nation, we in the building…”
While West shouts out Wiz (as in Wiz Khalifa) who is now dating Rose, the nameless “him” is an obvious reference to Kardashian’s husband, New Jersey Nets player Kris Humphries. The two are currently embroiled in a messy divorce, while rumors have swirled that West and Kardashian have been secretly seeing each other.
