Justin Bieber Discusses “Boyfriend,” Working With Mike Posner And New Album
Justin Bieber‘s highly anticipated single “Boyfriend” introduces a new side to the singer. The first track off his upcoming album Believe, the song showcases slow rap features and impressive falsetto.
“I just want to start off by making good music,” he said. “I like a lot of different styles of music and I think what’s so good about my music is [that] I’m able to branch off and do different things”
A completely different sound from his “Baby” days, despite his voice changing Bieber persevered.
“I’m trying to just work through it. Puberty definitely happens. My voice has already changed. I can hit falsetto. I can’t hit the main note. That’s not my full voice that I used to be able to hit,” Bieber said.
Though Bieber has been compared to Justin Timberlake in the past, he hopes Believe will set him apart.
“He did make a smooth transition from ‘NSync into his solo career, so that was remarkable,” Bieber said. “I want to be the best I can be. I’m not looking to Justin Timberlake and being like, ‘I want to emulate his career’ or even look at Usher and emulate his. I just want to take pieces, and just build myself and make my own way and maybe the next artist can say, ‘I want to follow in Justin Bieber’s footsteps.'”
Bieber seems to achieve this on “Boyfriend.” Of the track, he said he is telling all the girls what he would do if he were their boyfriend. Lucky for him, his girlfriend Selena Gomez doesn’t mind. “She loves it. It is about her,” Bieber said.
Mike Posner co-wrote “Boyfriend” and is just one of many collaborations Bieber has lined up for Believe. “He helped me with the hook. It’s an amazing song. He helped me with another song we did. He’s really good,” Bieber said. He later added that he also worked with Drake and Timbaland on the LP.
Believe is scheduled for release this summer.
