Michigan Student Starts “Walk Of Shame Shuttle” Service
Ann Arbor student KellyAnn Wargo is offering people a ride home after a night they may be embarrassed to re-live. This business may become her vehicle to a lucrative future.
Brobible broke the story last week and has maybe the best write up of our Michigan entrepreneurial spirit hard at work in The Mitten!
Here’s a piece of it
I have a particularly friendly roommate (Amanda) who takes advantage of my access to the mom van I that I drive- I have it for work. She always texts me to pick her up in the morning and then I make her buy me McDonalds for payment. With spring break quickly approaching I realized I can’t keep eating McDonalds the way I do. She suggested I make a business out of it because she, like many girls, doesn’t want to call a taxi that takes forever and is usually some sort of father figure, middle aged man, driver.
At the same time my mom began checking my credit card statement and was displeased by how much money I was spending five nights a week at the bar (second semester senior) so she told me to get another job. Being a Michigan student and all I was like, why apply for a job when I can start my own business? I have a part-time job as an assistant event coordinator (aka wedding planner) but no one gets married in winter, so I have no source of income. Basically I started it to make some quick cash.
It’s the Walk of Shame Shuttle because Stride of Pride would just encourage girls to walk. I always have a case of water in the back of my car because my apartment is on the third floor so it’s too heavy to carry. Anyone can get a $5 off Plan B coupon from the website, I’ll just print off a bunch. But don’t pass on my secret, bad for business. I think girls are more comfortable being picked up by girls. I’d love to do a “Cash Cab” kinda thing, who knows.
I think she should add “Sunglasses & Advil” to her gift pack for people who’s “last night was mad real.”
