Cannon’s Countdown: Five Most Memorable Heavy D Moments (R.I.P.)

Every day our man Nick Cannon covers off on the hottest music, movies and stars of pop culture. Come back each day for a list from Nick as part of Cannon’s Countdown.

Heavy D pioneered the cool big guy in hip-hop long before B.I.G. and Rick Rozay. At Uptown Records, he brought a little, unknown guy named Sean Combs to the label president and made him an intern. He became famous with the group Heavy D & the Boyz and even did the theme song to one of the funniest TV shows of all time, In Living Color. He even went on to act on television, movies and in theater. He was multitalented, and too young to die. He will be missed.

In honor of Heavy D, here are five of my most memorable moments of the artist.

1. “We Got Our Own Thing”

Heavy was killing the moves!

2.  “Girls, They Love Me”

Heavy proved that you could rap about fun and still be a success!

3. “Somebody For Me” Feat. Al B. Sure

His music had that melody that made you want to sing along and move (thanks in part to Teddy Riley)

4. “Is It Good To You”

Another feel good song from “The Overweight Lover”!

5.  Janet Jackson feat. Heavy D “Alright”

Heavy really did his own thang next to Ms. Janet. Dope video still.

Rest. In. Peace. Heavy.
