Detroit Pistons Ben Wallace, a.k.a. Big Ben is facing drunk driving and weapons charges after being pulled over for driving crazy in Bloomfield Twnship.
According to police, Big Ben was stopped around 3 a.m. in the area of Telegraph and Long Lake Roads for erratic driving.
Police say Ben was polite and straight forward to officers… he admitted to drinking and failed a field sobriety test at the scene. He was arrested and given a breathalyzer test at the station he blew a .14%. Michigan’s legal limit is .08%.
A search of Wallace’s 2007 Cadillac Escalade also revealed an unloaded pistol in a backpack. Police say Big Ben wasn’t licensed to carry it, but it was registered to a family member.
He is charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated (93-day misdemeanor) and Unlawful Carrying of a Concealed Weapon (5-year felony).
Wallace was arraigned and given a $5,000 personal bond. He is scheduled to appear in front of Judge Kimberly Small in 48th District Court on Oct. 3. Small is the same judge that sentenced former University of Michigan basketball star Jalen Rose to 20 days behind bars for drunk driving earlier this year.
