Whether you want to feel good, pump your fists, bob your head or stalk your ex… this week have soundtracks for all of the above! I know you’re an eclectic person that’s down to try new things as long as they’re kind of familiar and I’m here to deliver that to you right now!
For some reason, the kick ass album count is kind of on a downturn. I just want to point out to those hundreds of major labels and their artists that read my reviews weekly that it’s time to quit playing games and release your damn albums already. Trust me, there is quality music coming out, but it’s just not happening this week… outside of these guys right here. That being said, the top five this week are going to bring different tastes to your palette.
#5 Raphael Saadiq – Stone Rollin’
There’s a lot of love going for that good old Motown sound and since there has been such an influx of good product I have something that you newly found [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Adele [/lastfm]fans can sink your teeth into. With smooth sultry sounds and a resumé that speaks for itself, we have an artist that at one time was the front man for the Oakland, CA based [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tony Toni Tone[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Raphael Saadiq[/lastfm]. His beautiful melodic sounds will give you the needed pick me up you yearned for around track 7 of Adele’s 21 album. Check it out, you’ll love it!
#4 ATB – Distant Earth
Hitting the scene in the late 90’s with ‘Till I Come”, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]ATB[/lastfm] has been a European favorite for well over a decade. Fast forward to 2011 where dance music has finally resurfaced and is at the top of our minds, ATB is back and ready to take on the newbies. Distant Earth has some mid-tempo to higher energy tracks that you can tack onto your iPod for your workouts but cool enough for your tanning sessions too.
#3 Christina Perri – LoveStrong
Christina came by the station a while back and I thought “Jar of Hearts” was a cool song. And I’m going to go ahead and cheekily say that we may have had a moment; but after hearing this album, perhaps it didn’t need to go beyond that. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Perri’s[/lastfm] “Jar of Hearts” will, for a long time, be a staple break up song. She goes in pretty heavy in Lovestrong and if you’re angry, bitter, and are wide open to bustin’ windows out of cars and hacking your ex’s Facebook account, this is the perfect soundtrack.
#2 J.Lo – Love? Glitterati Edition
I know when you got [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]J.Lo’s[/lastfm] album last week, you probably copped it on the digital tip for your Pods, Pads, and Smartphones, but now she has the superfied gangsta dope edition that comes complete with a 12 x 12 white, glittery box containing a 12-inch pink vinyl, 3 lithographs, CD and much more. I’m hoping that the “much more” means that she’s gonna bless me with some [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mark Anthony[/lastfm] cologne or J.Lo Body Spray! Either way, it’s a collectors edition and I know you’re about two Costco trips away from an intervention from Hoarders, but you should add this to the stack!
#1 Pitbull – Give Me Everything
You’ve gotta know the song by now, and if we’re friends on Facebook, I predicted this as being a hit a few months ago. In fact, it’s second only to [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]LMFAO’s[/lastfm] Party Rock Anthem in my book. But with the assistance of the brain behind the melody, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ne-Yo[/lastfm], and a beast of a producer, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Afrojack[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pitbull[/lastfm] has an anthem that will be around for a very, very long time!
