It’s not every day that we get to meet bright new talent like this. Meet [lastfm]Cris Cab[/lastfm], a fresh-faced 18-year-old from Miami with a voice that will make you a believer. Cab has been gaining a following on Youtube for the past year with his reggae-style covers of tunes like [lastfm]Wiz Khalifa[/lastfm]‘s “Black & Yellow” and [lastfm]Kanye West[/lastfm]‘s “All Of The Lights.”
As good as those covers are, his appearance at the Street Date studios last week proved that Cab’s real talent lies in his own songwriting. And then there’s that voice…
Like a lot of new artists these days, [lastfm]Cris Cab[/lastfm] caught his big break after his videos started gaining popularity on Youtube. Sometime in the last year he linked up with super-producer (and man-of-the-world) [lastfm]Pharrell Williams[/lastfm] and the two have been working together ever since. Williams was impressed with Cab’s unique style, the way he incorporates slower-paced reggae rhythms with a tight lyrical flow, revealing musical ability far beyond his years.
These days when Cab performs live he’s got none other than the [lastfm]N.E.R.D.[/lastfm] playing behind him as his backing band. Not a bad way to start your touring career! For his visit to Street Date, however, Cab performed solo, just Cris and his guitar. Clean out your ears and hit Play on the video below, and prepare to get hooked.
Cris Cab – “My Life” (Acoustic)
We’ll leave you with Cab’s brand new music video, for his song “Good Girls.” Guys, don’t even try to tell us you wouldn’t love to be Cris right now…
Come back each week to hear about hot music hitting the street from our friends at Street Date.
