Brandon Lee, son of martial arts mega star Bruce Lee, was accidentally killed on the set of the original film when a prop gun accidentally fired a legit bullet into his spine during the filming of a fight scene back in 1993, he was 28-years-old.
A number of rumors are associated with the death of Brandon Lee. Some have even gone so far as to suggest that Lee was murdered by the same Chinese Mafia that supposedly caused the sudden death in 1973 of Lee’s father, Bruce Lee, as punishment for his exposure of ancient martial arts secrets on film. UNTRUE!
Others have speculated that he was murdered by people with ties to the Hong Kong movie industry, angered by his refusal to work in their films. Also UNTRUE! The simple truth is that Brandon Lee was killed in a tragic accident, the result of carelessness and cost-cutting.
The scene that put an end to Lee’s life, was actually the death of Lee’s character at the hands of street thugs. Lee was to walk in through a door carrying a bag of groceries. Actor Michael Massee then fired a revolver loaded with blanks at Lee. Unfortunately, a fragment of a dummy bullet, used earlier in close-up shots, was lodged in the barrel and the blank charge propelled the fragment into Lee’s side, fatally wounding him.
And no, the scene was NOT used in the final cut.
Cut to 2011…
The remake will be directed by 28 Weeks Later director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. The Hangover star Bradley Cooper is currently in negotiations to take over the role of the bruting superhero, resurrected from death to avenge the death of his fiancée.
You know you’ve made it in Hollywood when you get to dress in head-to-toe leather.
