Roll out the yellow brick road! Oz: The Great and Powerful with Johnny Depp might be filming in Michigan. The movie is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz and explains how the wizard ended up in Oz before Dorothy began her journey.
The Detroit Free Press reported on the application to the Michigan Film Office for the tax credit. The tax credit is for $40 million and that alone comprises more than 60% of all credits for 26 projects approved in the last six months of 2010.
The film’s title was not revealed, and the state office would not divulge on the name of the project.
The production company is called Emerald City Films, which is affiliated with Disney (the studio behind the project). The production company also shares the name of with the capital city of Oz, Emerald City. That could just be a coincidence, but heres to hoping that Depp with be spending some time in the Motor City.
