Governor Jennifer Granholm says the state’s Big Three public universities, University of Michigan, Michigan State and Wayne State are strengthening Michigan’s plummeting movie industry by collaborating together to train students in filmmaking. The 2010 Creative Film Alliance Summer Film Institute opened today and runs for
eight weeks. It’s being held at the KBS Conference Center on Gull Lake in Ross Township in Kalamazoo. This is about 120 miles west of Detroit, so it’s perfect for a summer “camp” for 8 weeks in filmmaking! Totally cool! The program has staff which includes Hollywood professionals and university faculty. Michigan’s film initiative includes large tax breaks for moviemakers and has resulted in a big influx of movie production. Are you attending the Summer Film Institute program this summer? Let me know what you’re learning!
