Detroit on Dateline NBC
So what did you think? Did it make our city look good or bad?
I personally thought it was a little over the top. I believe in this town. I moved here. I bought a house here. I intend to stay here. Are there problems? Absolutely. But instead of doing a special where the majority of the focus was on the negatives, how about showing what IS working. The movie industry was mentioned once at the very end for about a minute. Thirty seconds was devoted to a guy who opened a French restaurant downtown and is having success. I suppose he is the only person who has invested a dollar inside the city limits and has seen a return?
Showing burnt out buildings and talking about how many liquor stores are inside the city must be better for ratings.
If Chris Hansen really wanted to make a difference in his former hometown that he claims to love so much, how about showing the entire country the positive attributes of this city and the opportunity that is here for investment. Instead I felt like we were put on national television last night to reinforce the stereotypes people already have about Detroit.
I moved here, I’m giving this city a try. NOTHING about the story I saw last night would help me convince anyone else to do the same.
So thanks Chris Hansen. You tried, I think.
